Hokusai kinda made waves with his 1833–1834 series of woodblock prints entitled “A Tour of the Waterfalls of the Provinces”, because he was the first ukiyo-e artist to use a theme of falling water. As a follower of Nichiren Buddhism, Hokusai likely created these artworks with the gods and spirits said to inhabit the waterfalls in mind.
